When Discology opened in November of 2006, we started by carrying tons of used/new CDs. Shortly thereafter, we started selling vinyl and DVDs before moving to our current location in 2009. Since then we have added LDs (laserdiscs) and BDs (Blu-Ray Discs) to our relatively small space– which is actually a former box office for the Century Riverside Movie Theater. The store is a semi-circular room located on the outside of the building about 25 feet to the left of the front doors. You can certainly store a lot of product in a small store when each format is the same size!

Here are a few things that we do:

We primarily sell used, new and rare media… of the flat and round variety. New releases and some of the more rare titles are available on our Discogs storefront.

Special ordering from our distributor helps to fill in the gaps of what we don’t have on hand. We can also pre-order new releases on all formats including vinyl (especially on exclusive indie store color ways). Keep up with us here, Instagram or Facebook to see what we are receiving in store or for announcements of upcoming releases and events.

Speaking of events, let’s talk about Record Store Day! Discology has been active for years with the single greatest day that celebrates vinyl with exclusive releases, cool color ways and new-to-vinyl editions! And lucky for all of us, it happens twice a year– once in April and on Black Friday. Stay tuned for announcements on our social media regarding the next RSD.

Ultimately, what binds all of this together is that we have good research skills to help you find what you are looking for both old and new. That’s why we call it Disc-ology!

When it comes to our used media, Discology is a consignment store and we split 50/50 with our customers once items have been sold. If poly sleeves are needed, then .15 cents will be deducted from the consignee’s half when sold.
Please call or email if you are interested in consigning with us.

Typically, based on what sells the most, we are interested in selling the following genres:

•Rock (from the Beatles forward) including Punk, Heavy Metal, Indie as well as Classic Rock

•Sci-Fi and Horror soundtracks

•Jazz

•Blues

•Soul

•Reggae

•Hip-Hop/Rap

We can transfer/archive LPs and Cassettes to CD as well as VHS and LD to DVD. Regarding our Transfer services:

•Turnaround time is usually pretty quick – usually a couple of days – depending on how much you have to transfer and what is already in queue. Please remember that everything is transferred in real time and cannot be done so in fast forward.

•It is important to be aware that what you hear is what you get. If your LP has scratches, then you will hear those scratches in the recording on CDr. The same is also true for cassettes, where a warped or well-worn tape will transfer exactly as they are.

•LPs will have general cleaning before being recorded. Cassettes and VHS will be re/wound to prevent the tape from sticking during playback.

•The CDr will have track markers placed between songs so you can access individual songs as with a factory pressed CD.

————- Pricing————

-LP to CDr –

$12 per single LP to CDr

$20 if 2 LPs will fit onto a single 78 minute CDr.

$10 per CDr if transferring a single LP not requiring any track breaks. This is especially useful for comedy or live albums that lack obvious song starts/stops, utilize cross-fading or employ medleys.

SHELLAC 78s to CDr –

$12 for the first 45 minutes to CDr and .25 cents per minute thereafter.

We can certainly transfer your 78s to CDr. As before, what you hear is what you get. We do not apply filters or attempt to fix the flaws inherent in shellac 78s.

CASSETTE to CDr –

$12 for the first 45 minutes to CDr and .25 cents per minute thereafter. If cassettes have missing pads or broken housings that cause them to not play, then there is an additional charge of $15 per hour (whether or not the work ends up fixing the cassette) to make it playable.

VHS to DVDr –

$12 per half hour
We cannot improve the resolution of the VHS copy and flaws are expected in older tapes. Also- we do not edit out elements, moments or scenes within a longer recording. We can combine multiple VHS tapes onto a single DVDr if room allows. We do not place chapter markers within your recordings onto DVDr.

LD (Laserdisc) to DVDr –

$12 per half hour
This is the highest resolution format prior to DVD. At 425 lines of resolution, the transferred image looks amazingly decent as your Blu-Ray player will attempt to upscale the image once it has been digitized onto DVDr. As before, we do not edit out elements, moments or scenes within a longer recording. As well, we do not place chapter markers within your recordings onto DVDr.

OTHER FORMATS –

Please inquire with us if you have something that you would like transferred and we’ll let you know what is possible.

As a final note, we can also resurface your CDs, DVDs and disc games with our professional CD polisher. The cost is $4/CD and $4/DVD side. Games are also $4/side.
